There are currently 172 licensed wineries in the Okanagan Valley, that together with the Similkameen Valley produce over 90% of the wine in British Columbia, making it the 2nd largest wine producing region in Canada. In 2017, changes to the BC Liquor Control & Licensing Regulations brought in specific requirements for BC Wineries to obtain or renew their winery license. These updates require you to:
Manufacture at least 4500L of wine per year*
Show an intention to produce at least 4500L of wine in the next year*
Show the previous year’s records of manufacturing 4500L of wine to renew a manufacturing license* * excluding wine manufactured offsite/elsewhere
Production Facilities: Cottage Industry Wineries and Large-Scale Wineries have many regulatory hoops to jump through. Having your own production facility is one of them to get or renew your license. Location, Location, Location: We design our buildings specific to our customer’s exact location. For example, the requirements and building codes for commercial building construction in Kelowna and the Okanagan, may vary greatly from other areas in BC. We consider the rainfall, the snow load, the range of temperatures and more when working with you to design a facility that protects your business assets from these challenges. We can also add features to your building such as snow guards if you are in high snowfall areas to protect your walkways and customers from accumulated snow. In other areas, retractable canopies may add both architectural features as well as practical shade from the sun and elements, again, depending on your location and exposure.
